The entity issued a statement requesting 15.5 million dollars to meet the needs of thousands of civilians affected by the armed hostilities in the camp between July 29th and August 3rd.
According to UNRWA, the eight schools administrated by the agency providing education to 5,900 children were badly damaged and occupied by militants and remain as such, despite calls to abandon the facilities.
The requested aid will allow UNRWA to provide cash assistance for conflict-damaged Palestinian refugees in the region, as well as the reparation and maintenance of critical public infrastructure, including electricity and water supply networks.
It will also contribute to the removal of debris and the awareness of the residents of the camp and its surroundings about the problems posed by unexploded ordinance and other combat remnants.
Official data puts the Palestinian refugees in Ein al-Hilweh at over 54,000 and who have been joined in recent years by thousands more from Syria.
