According to the National Union of Haitian Police Officers, the agents confronted members of the Grand Ravine gang who are trying to take control of the area and strengthen their hold on the southern zone of Port-au-Prince that connects the capital with the four southern departments.
Eight of the alleged gang members were shot and burned by a popular resistance brigade, while the police recovered several firearms, the union structure revealed.
Its coordinator, Lionel Lazarre, praised the work of the officers and encouraged them to continue to mobilize on the ground to confront the criminal gangs.
He pointed out that in addition to recovering the town, it is necessary to facilitate the return of thousands of residents who fled their homes due to the criminal groups’ actions.
Violence in Haiti continues despite increasingly frequent actions by the police to fight criminal gangs.
