The event was attended by the Episcopal Conference of Colombia and the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia.
This is the first regional instance formally installed within the framework of the ceasefire that came into force on August 3rd and which should last until January 29th, 2024, with the possibility of an extension.
A space for dialogue with local and ethnic authorities also took place at the meeting, where the importance of putting regional and local instances into operation was highlighted.
The main objectives of the Mechanism preventing incidents, solving problems, reducing the intensity of the conflict, allowing the participation of society in the peace process, and improving the humanitarian situation of the population.
The Monitoring and Verification Mechanism and all its components are working in a committed manner to achieve the objectives of the Bilateral, National and Temporary Ceasefire Agreement, the agency emphasized.
The other regional and local instances will be installed in the next few days, it announced.
