Women debate on gender violence in Cuba

Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) The realization of workshops Women's Voices for the Non-violence of gender was among the actions undertaken in this province of Cuba with a view to the XI Congress of the Cuban Women´s Federation (FMC).

On Wednesday, during the event for the 63rd anniversary of the creation of the CWF, it was known that one of the main challenges of the women of Ciego de Avila is to eradicate this social problem, which still affects women in neighborhoods and communities.

The general secretary of the women’s organization in Ciego de Avila, Odelsys Valcárcel, pointed out that this will be one of the main issues to be discussed in the municipal and provincial assemblies, scheduled for the coming months in the territory.

She specified that they also show progress in the National Program for the Advancement of Women, which is based on achieving empowerment and gender equality.

In Ciego de Avila, women occupy 54.5 percent of the management positions at different levels and a high number of them are employed in important sectors of the economy and in the food program, Valcárcel said.

During the activity, held in the municipality of Baraguá, outstanding members of the CWF, grassroots leaders and those who have been working for five and up to 25 years were awarded, and a group of youth received their membership cards for joining the organization.
