Ethiopia and India agreed to strengthen cooperation (+Photos)

Johannesburg, South Africa, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, agreed to strengthen economic and political cooperation, on the sidelines of the 15th Brics Summit, which ends here on Thursday.

In a mutual expression of commitment to deepen relations, especially with the country’s membership in the group, made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, Ahmed and Modi will boost collaboration in agriculture, technology, trade and investment, the Ethiopian President’s Office announced.

Ahmed noted that contemporary relations between the two countries are seven decades long, while historic ties date back to 2,000 years of recorded history.

Earlier, he hailed the announcement of Ethiopia’s membership alongside Egypt, Argentina, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, effective on January 1, 2024, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed.

“It’s a great moment for #Ethiopia as Brics leaders endorse our membership in this group today. Ethiopia stands ready to cooperate with all for an inclusive and prosperous world order,” he wrote on his account on the X social network formerly Twitter.
