Argentine Foreign Minister: joining Brics is a historic chance

Buenos Aires, Aug 24 (Prensa Latina) The entry of Argentina into the Brics group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) is a historic opportunity, the Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Santiago Cafiero, said today.

In a message published on the social network X (formerly Twitter), Cafiero thanked the Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, for the enormous boost given to make this happen.

We need both nations to grow together in order to have a sustainable development policy over time. In unity, we took another step in that direction, he said.

He also pointed out that joining the Brics means being part of a bloc that represents 42 percent of the world’s population, 24 percent of the global Gross Domestic Product and 16 percent of exports.

The heart of our foreign policy is the projection to the world as a peaceful, friendly, realistic and dignified people. Our vision is pragmatic and for the benefit of Argentines, especially those who need it most, he said.

He also recalled that the current five members of the Brics account for 30 percent of Argentina’s exports.

Cafiero told Radio 10 that from now on concrete opportunities will be opened for local producers and highlighted the work of the Brics.
