Colombian authorities deny knowledge of ELN terrorist attack

Ministerio-de-Defensa-de-Colombia
Bogota, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian Ministry of Defense, the military leadership, the National Police and the intelligence community on Wednesday denied having knowledge of a terrorist attack by the ELN on the Attorney General and other people.

In a statement, they pointed out that, until August 4, when the Army had access to the information on the possible intention of the attack, neither the Army nor any other intelligence agencies had any knowledge of the actions mentioned in a press release from the Attorney General’s Office.

They added that it could be confirmed that, after verifying the records held by the intelligence agencies, the source that provided the information to the Prosecutor’s Office would be the same that delivered the data to the National Army.

It could be verified that no agencies that integrates the intelligence community, in the development of its own tasks, declared to have had additional information to the existing one on the above-mentioned terrorist intention.

Likewise, it was verified that no intelligence agencies have had additional information to the one mentioned in the statement from the Attorney General’s Office.

After the implementation of the cease-fire between the Government and the National Liberation Army (ELN), and the creation of the National Participation Committee on August 3, the Attorney General’s Office issued a statement in which it pointed to this guerrilla as the possible author of a terrorist attack against the prosecutor and other persons.

The Peace delegation of the guerrilla described the news circulated by the Colombian Attorney General’s Office as false and affirmed that “with it they are trying to sabotage the dialogue that is being developed between the Government and the ELN.” According to the information provided by the Attorney General’s Office, ELN members are being trained in Venezuela to carry out an attack with snipers.
