According to data released on the CNE website, the presidential candidate of the Citizen Revolution (RC), Luisa González, won 33.47 percent of the votes, and Daniel Noboa, of the National Democratic Action coalition (ADN), obtained 23.48 percent.
González and Noboa will compete for the presidency on October 15th, but the final results will take time, since the minutes “with news” or “with inconsistencies”, that is, the figures that do not coincide, must still be reviewed.
The same is true of the legislators, as according to the official CNE website, the count is almost complete, although the review is still pending.
Rafael Correa’s RC movement won over 50 seats in Parliament, followed by the Construye movement, which supported assassinated candidate Fernando Villavicencio, with at least 27 seats. They are followed by the Christian Social Party and its allies, which have so far won 17 seats, and Noboa’s ADN alliance, with 12 positions.
According to the electoral calendar, the scrutiny will take 10 days, that is, until August 30th, and from that moment on the political parties may file appeals before the Electoral Contentious Tribunal (TCE).
For this reason, the CNE will officially announce the winners on September 23rd and will call the second round of elections to elect the successor to the current president, Guillermo Lasso.
The elections on August 20th confirmed that the RC is the strongest political movement in the country, although Luisa González failed to secure the majority of seats in parliament.
