As reported by the local press, the president emphasized that the bloc will become a key cooperation platform for emerging markets and the main developing countries.
According to a Xinhua report, Xi stressed that the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) stand for better global governance and more democracy in international relations.
Xi further expressed his confidence that the summit will become an important milestone for boosting the group’s mechanism and help bring the unity and cooperation of developing countries to a higher level.
He also noted that he looks forward to attending the China-Africa Leaders’ Dialogue, where they will jointly discuss ways for close collaboration to build a more peaceful world.
The Chinese president arrived in South Africa on Monday on a state visit on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, and to participate in the 15th BRICS Summit, which will take place from August 22 to 24.
As part of the agenda, Beijing is expected to promote its proposals for a new global governance and multilateral financial architecture.
The dignitaries are participating in the Summit under the theme “BRICS and Africa: partnership for mutually accelerated growth, sustainable development and inclusive multilateralism”.
