CARDH investigators visited five of hundreds of such shelters that currently host people who had to flee their homes due to the escalation of violence in the country.
The Center pointed out that at least 3,000 people are housed in the high school of Carrefour-Feuilles, which is partly abandoned, so the lives of the displaced are in danger.
Faced with this situation, CARDH urged authorities to coordinate actions better on the ground, identify the specific needs of each place and carry out specific emergency interventions.
Among the urgent needs are lighting, special health care, psycho-social support, food, hygiene and shelter, according to the institution.
It added that the displaced, including children, the disabled and the elderly, face precarious and undignified living conditions, and encouraged the Government to implement an emergency economic and social recovery plan to help people who lost their homes and possessions.
According to official statistics, more than 5,000 people escaped from Carrefour-Feuilles, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince that has been ravaged by armed groups.
