India considers BRICS Summit a useful opportunity for cooperation

Narendra-Modi-2
New Delhi, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, assured that the BRICS Summit, which opened today in South Africa, will provide a useful opportunity to identify areas of cooperation and review the development of the group's mechanism.

Modi issued a statement before the start of the event saying that the bloc has pursued a strong collaborative agenda in several sectors.

He also considered that the BRICS became a platform to deliberate on issues of interest to the entire Global South, including development imperatives and the reform of the multilateral system.

Modi also referred to the schedule he will develop, which will include his participation in the special BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue events, as well as talks with leaders at the Summit and representatives of invited countries.

Vinay Kwatra, India’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, mentioned the interest of more than 30 nations in joining to the bloc during a press conference.

The official stressed that India has a positive intention and an open mind when it comes to the expansion of the BRICS.

Kwatra specified that the bloc is working under the modality and principle of consensus, so all its members must fully agree on the acceptance of a new member.
