ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Abdel Fattah Musa, stated that such a period was unacceptable and demanded the restoration of constitutional order under threat of military intervention.
However, countries such as Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea do not support intervention in Niger, and their authorities pointed out that military action against Niamey would also be considered aggression against their territories.
Political observers recalled on Tuesday that Burkina Faso and Mali expelled French colonialism from their territories, supported Niger in this endeavor, and sent fighter planes and helicopters to support the Nigerien armed forces.
Niger is also subject to other ECOWAS sanctions, including the closure of the airspace of the group’s countries and the suspension of trade exchanges, which has caused a further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country.
