Bill to prevent privatization of Argentine Airlines to be analyzed

Uruguay y Argentina retoman su conexión aérea
Buenos Aires, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) The General Legislation Committee of the Chamber of Deputies will analyze today a project to prohibit the transfer of shares of Argentine Airlines without the authorization of two thirds of the members of Congress.

According to the scheduled agenda, the debate will begin at 14:00, local time, and the initiative, presented by Frente de Todos (FdT) legislator Máximo Kirchner, is intended to prevent the company from being dismantled in the future without consulting that entity.

The proposal takes on special relevance in view of the statements made by presidential candidates Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza) and Patricia Bullrich (Juntos por el Cambio) regarding their plans to eliminate or privatize public companies defended by the FdT.

According to Kirchner, the objective is “to protect what has been achieved and to chase away the privatizing ghosts, as well as to put limits to those who, disguised as efficient managers, the only thing they did was to use the State as a source of financing for personal business”.

The project advocates the reform of Law 26 466/08, which declared the shares of this and other entities to be of public utility and subject to expropriation.

The modification would be similar to the one made to expropriate 51 percent of Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales, in the hands of the Spanish transnational Repsol until 2012.
