In order to generate positive changes, the occasion invites to listen to the voices of survivors of terrorist acts and their terrible experiences.
Under the title “Legacy: Hope and Building a Better Future”, the Day also aims to raise awareness of the long-lasting impact terrorism has on those who suffered from it and remember those who lost their lives in such horrific events.
According to the United Nations, the acts that propagate a range of hateful ideologies, causes injure, harm and kill thousands of innocent people every year. Their victims and survivors struggle to have their voices heard, their needs supported and their rights respected, but they often feel forgotten and neglected.
To achieve their recovery, long-term multidimensional support is needed, including physical, psychological, social and financial measures, which the Member States of the UN are mainly responsible for.
However, in order to meet this challenge, the United Nations offers support to member countries to implement a Global Strategy against Terrorism.
This initiative promotes through solidarity, capacity building, networking and support for civil society, particularly associations of victims of terrorism.
