Al-Zamil told the press that Syria needs 6,000 megawatts while producing 2,000 megawatts due to the lack of oil and gas, which the US forces deprive the people of using them.
The minister affirmed that the Government would keep the subsidy for domestic electricity consumption within its natural limits of 1,500 kilowatts per month.
He said the cost of producing one kilowatt of electricity is almost one US dollar, while citizens purchase it for less than 10 cents per kilowatt.
The Ministry’s strategy, Al-Zamil stated, is based on restoring the electrical system facilities and diversifying energy sources by relying more on renewable energy sources such as the sun and wind.
Of 9,000 megawatts produced before the war, Syria is currently producing about 2,000 megawatts due to the lack of fuel and spare parts for power plant maintenance as a result of the blockade and sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union.
