After visiting the areas affected by fires in the Canary Islands, Sánchez stated that the Council of Ministers would approve the measure once the fire has been brought under control.
The areas affected in Tenerife will be declared zones seriously affected by a civil protection emergency as a sign of the Government’s commitment to the reconstruction and recovery of the affected municipalities once the fire-fighting works are completed, he said.
“The Government of Spain will participate in the reconstruction, recovery, and stabilization works of the daily life of the citizens affected in Tenerife,” he said.
Accompanied by Fernando Clavijo, President of the Canary Islands; Héctor Gómez, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Tourism; and Anselmo Pestana, Government Delegate to the Canary Islands; Sánchez highlighted the excellent level of cooperation, coordination, and collaboration between all public administrations involved in the work to contain and extinguish the fire.
Declared the worst forest fire here in the last 40 years, teams of firefighters and specialized army units are working tirelessly to establish at least a cordon to neutralize the spread of the flames.
