In his weekly letter, the president noted that China’s commitment to supporting African countries in fulfilling the aspirations contained in the African Union’s 2063 Agenda and the success of the African Continental Free Trade Area is an encouragement.

On the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, the President added that South Africa stands ready to work closely with the government and people of China towards a meaningful and mutually beneficial shared future.

One of the areas in which South Africa can learn from China is in the fight against poverty, where Beijing has reaped significant rewards, Ramaphosa said, just hours before the beginning of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to South Africa, where he will participate in the 15th Bricks Summit.

China has lifted nearly 800 million people out of poverty in the past 40 years, the South African head of State recalled.
