Costa Rica to strengthen biomedical research

San Jose, Aug 21 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rican health authorities created a committee to analyze projects related to medical research, especially phase 1 drugs and bioequivalence, the entity reported this Monday.

The initiative will be carried out by means of a decree signed by Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves and the Health Minister, Mary Munive, and will offer the possibility of having a greater number of drug options, will favor more competitive markets and, therefore, a reduction in prices for the consumer.

In a press release, the Ministry explained that according to data from the National Health Research Council, the country has 1,596 main researchers duly accredited.

It also emphasizes that the creation of the committee will join efforts to facilitate the attraction of greater foreign investment of high added value and, of course, more jobs.

The committee will be formed by at least five people who must be accredited with enough knowledge in research and bioethics.

Likewise, a person who represents the interests of the community and who is capable of looking after the welfare of the people interested in participating in these studies will also take part.

The health authority explains that this decree is aimed at continuing to strengthen the work and the functional structure of the institutional framework in order to support and encourage health research.
