According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the President will attend the Summit of the group, which will take place from August 22nd to 24th.
The visit of the president of China is taking place in the context of the celebration of 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The parties are expected to sign several Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding in pursuit of greater collaboration and associations to solidify diplomatic and economic relations and ties between both peoples.
South Africa and China will also co-host the China-Africa Leaders Roundtable scheduled for August 24th in the context of the BRICS Plus Dialogue, which includes nations from the Global South and the African continent together with BRICS Africa Outreach.
Beijing is expected to advance its proposals for a new global governance and multilateral financial architecture.
The leaders of the BRICS member countries will meet in Johannesburg under the theme “BRICS and Africa: partnership for mutually accelerated growth, sustainable development and inclusive multilateralism”.
China is currently South Africa’s largest trading partner, and bilateral ties are governed by a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, defined in a 10-year Strategic Cooperation Program (2020-2029).
