According to a statement from the South African presidency, the welcoming ceremony will take place on Tuesday morning in Pretoria ahead of the 15th Brics Summit, to be held from the 22nd to the 24th at the Santon Convention Center in Johannesburg.
Jinping’s visit will take place in the context of the celebration of 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
A number of Agreements and Memorandum of Understanding are expected to be commence in pursuit of further collaboration and partnerships to solidify diplomatic, economic and people-to-people relations.
South Africa and China will also co-host the China-Africa Leaders’ Roundtable scheduled for August 24 in the context of the Brics Plus Dialogue, which together with Brics Africa Outreach, includes nations from the Global South and the African continent.
The visit is expected to help enhance cooperation, specifically in the context of the Brics, the G77 plus China and the G20, as well as to seek Chinese support for South Africa and Africa’s call for reform of global governance institutions, in particular the UN Security Council, the text concludes.
