Asked about the United States’ decision, supported by Canada, to go to the highest level of litigation at an international panel that had been avoided so far because it was not convenient for anyone, the president stated that they were dissatisfied because Mexico would only use genetically modified corn for animal feed.

López Obrador explained that the entrepreneurs and producers of this sector in the United States, where huge quantities of genetically modified corn are produced, give a lot of money to senators and presidents secretly for their electoral campaigns, and now they are demanding them to oppose Mexico’s sovereign decisions, citing the alleged rules of the T-MEC.

However, they have to respect this country’s decisions, and these authorities cannot be at the service of entrepreneurs or maintain all these distortions because the citizens did not elect them to do that. The head of State related the purchase of authorities’ wills regarding modified corn to what also happens in the war industry, where arms manufacturers give money to representatives and senators to pass laws in their favor, and that’s why the legislators defend the arms industry in Congress.

He added that this attitude regarding yellow corn is a matter that does not help, but now due to pressure from those who have a lot of influence in Congress and the Government, they are promoting and pushing for these extreme solutions.

López Obrador revealed that these same business sectors and lawmakers are the ones who repeatedly promote the awarding ceremonies of Nobel Prizes in Science for convenience in order to use them in favor of their interests later.
