According to the Colombian Geological Service (SGC), after yesterday’s tremor, at 12:04 local time, of 6.1 magnitude and with epicenter in El Calvario, department of Meta, about 50 aftershocks have been registered, most of them imperceptible and of low magnitude.
The governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García Bustos, detailed that in this department there are affectations in 10 municipalities such as material falling in five points of the roads.
On the other hand, in this capital the only serious incident reported was the fall from a tenth floor of a residential building of a woman in Madelena, located in the south-west of Bogotá, apparently due to a nervous breakdown. Three minors were injured in Meta and one in Sativá (Boyacá).
Almost all the inhabitants of the municipality of El Calvario, Meta, evacuated their homes and offices after the 6.1 magnitude earthquake, which epicenter was located in this area.
The SGC reminded the population that it is not possible to predict when an earthquake will occur, nor its magnitude, as well as the aftershocks that may be generated.
“From the SGC, we call on citizens to get information through official sources and avoid spreading false and inaccurate messages,” he stressed.
He assured that they continue working through the National Seismological Network of Colombia to deliver scientific and timely information on this type of geohazards in the country.
