The growth was shown in Escuintla (10 more cases), Zacapa (nine), Izabal (five), Solola (four), Huehuetenango and Alta Verapaz (three), Baja Verapaz (two) and Jalapa (one), detailed the National Economy Research Center (CIEN).
CIEN’s researcher Walter Menchu pointed out that July’s figure is the highest of 2023 with 273 murders, although the inter-annual rate remained at 16.3 per 100,000 inhabitants.
Menchu described that of all the killings registered that month, 12% corresponded to women (32) and four victims were minors (10).
