Part of a campaign to clean up public life undertaken by the Burkina Faso’s interim government, the court sentenced the former head of state to 11 years in prison for embezzlement of public funds, illicit enrichment and money laundering.
Another charge in the case file includes illegal financing of a political party, New Time for Democracy, of which Dabilgou was president and whose activity was outlawed.
Of the 11 years, at least seven must be served in a penitentiary, the defendant must also pay a fine equivalent to 4,700,000,000 euros and the court added the confiscation of his assets in the amount embezzled, according to the sentence.
