Kurz was charged by a commission examining the scope of the so-called ‘Ibizagate’, which caused the fall of the government coalition in 2019.
The controversy triggered a broader political debate on alleged corrupt activities by that Executive.
The trial will open on October 18 and the verdict is expected on October 23, according to judicial sources quoted by the state broadcaster ORF.
Kurz said on his account on the social network X (former Twitter) that he is not surprised by the prosecution’s accusation and that he ‘is confident that the truth will come out, since the accusations are false.’
The former federal chancellor resigned in 2021 after being accused of diverting public funds to further his political aspirations.
