We have no admissions or diagnosis of fentanyl intoxication at hospital level, said the official on Thursday after local media reported on alerts in Guayaquil of people with symptoms similar to the addiction to this synthetic opioid among consumers of the so-called “hashish”.

However, Ruales clarified that the only reported case of discomfort from fentanyl is a patient to whom it was administered in a “normal, commercial” way after medical evaluation.

He acknowledged that there are those who present symptoms associated with fentanyl, but “it is not yet identified”.

The illicit commercialization of this substance, its distribution and especially its mixture with other drugs is a matter of great concern, warned Ruales.

As for the reports of a black market of this drug in social networks, he said that this is under the responsibility of the National Agency for Regulation, Control and Health Surveillance (ARCSA).

The growth of drug trafficking and drug consumption in Ecuador gave way to warnings on the subject, mainly because fentanyl can be 50 times more stronger than heroin and those who consume it could die from overdose with a small amount.

Ministro de Salud de Ecuador niega ingresos por adicción al fentanilo

Quito, 17 ago (Prensa Latina) El ministro de Salud Pública de Ecuador, José Ruales, descartó hoy la existencia en el país de pacientes ingresados por el consumo de fentanilo, droga que constituye un problema sanitario en naciones como Estados Unidos.

No tenemos ingresos, ni diagnóstico de intoxicación por fentanilo a nivel hospitalario, indicó el funcionario luego de que medios locales informaran sobre alertas en Guayaquil de personas con síntomas similares a la adicción a ese opioide sintético entre consumidores de la denominada “hache”.

No obstante, Ruales aclaró que el único caso reportado de malestar por fentanilo es una paciente a la cual se le administró de manera “normal, comercial” previa valoración médica.

Reconoció que hay quienes presentan síntomas asociados al fentanilo, pero “no está todavía identificado”.

Es un tema de mucha preocupación la comercialización ilícita de esa sustancia, la distribución y especialmente su mezcla con otras drogas, advirtió Ruales.

En cuanto a las denuncias de un mercado negro de este fármaco en redes sociales, apuntó que eso está bajo responsabilidad de la Agencia Nacional de Regulación, Control y Vigilancia Sanitaria (Arcsa).

El crecimiento del narcotráfico y el consumo de drogas en Ecuador dio paso a las alertas sobre el tema, principalmente porque el fentanilo puede ser 50 veces más potente que la heroína y quien lo consume podría morir por sobredosis con poca cantidad.
