Decree 366-23 issued by Abinader states that the Commander General of the Dominican Air Force will establish a unit responsible for overseeing the operational aspects of the Southern Command. It includes providing training, equipment, and organization.

The Presidency’s website published that the Resolution declares public utility and social interest in the acquisition by the State for the construction of the aforementioned Air Base of a portion of land within plot no. 20 of Cadastral District no. 14.1 in the province of Barahona.
