According to the news agency, the members of Libertad Assange Argentina will deliver two letters to Ambassador Kirsty Hayes, in which they demand that the cyber-activist is not extradited to the United States.
One of the letters is signed by the US journalist Chris Hedges and the other one was written by Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, who is the representative of Argentina’s Iris Pereyra League for Human Rights; the teacher and trade unionist Marta Maffei, and the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, among others.
The United Kingdom has the sovereign possibility of setting an international precedent in the defense of freedom of the press as a fundamental human right, an excerpt from the second letter states.
This action starts a series of initiatives to support Assange, including a film series that will begin on August 26 at the Kirchner Cultural Center.
The cyber-activist remains locked up in the United Kingdom since 2019, when Ecuador withdrew the political asylum granted to him seven years earlier and allowed the police to arrest him at its Embassy in London.
