OCHA facilitated the movement of over a thousand truckloads of vital aid in the midst of the armed conflict in Sudan to reach regions such as East Darfur, Khartoum, Kordofans, and several other states.

A humanitarian convoy from Port Sudan recently arrived in the East Darfur capital, Ad Du’ayn, carrying medical, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene supplies from the United Nations Children’s Fund and the World Health Organization for people displaced by the conflict and the communities hosting them.

Other trucks were headed for Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, but the fighting has hampered the delivery.

This week, UN agencies urged to end the conflict in Sudan, while the needs for humanitarian aid and the amount of the population affected grew after four months of fighting.

The high commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, described the scenario as a “disastrous and senseless war”, which has a devastating impact on people’s lives, health and well-being.

Over 4.3 million people have been forced to flee since April 15th, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, said William Spindler, spokesman for the UN Refugee Agency. During this time, more than 900,000 refugees and asylum seekers fled to neighboring countries and 195,000 South Sudanese were forced to leave the country.
