Study seeks to formulate national environmental policies in Africa

Addis Ababa, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) The African Environmental Outlook study was launched today with the aim of formulating national environmental policies for member countries, the Ethiopian Environmental Protection Authority said.

The initiative was presented at the parallel “Shape of Science and Policy” forum in conjunction with the 19th session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (Amcen) which is in session from August 14 to 18 in this capital.

According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) website, Africa is a continent of immense diversity and untapped potential that is at a crossroads in the quest for sustainable development and faces environmental challenges such as biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution.

Yet within these challenges lie limitless opportunities for transformative, environmentally friendly business enterprises that could drive economic growth and foster regional environmental stewardship and social progress.

The African Environmental Perspective sheds light on sustainable business opportunities to address these challenges with a particular focus on circularity, a model that embraces sustainable consumption and production and provides simultaneous solutions to each of the above environmental crises.

At the same time, these solutions support social inclusion and contribute to economic prosperity. It also aims to inspire entrepreneurs and businesses to adopt disruptive and environmentally sound innovations that will shape Africa’s sustainable development trajectory for 2030 and beyond.
