Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin stressed that this project’s legitimacy and safety have long been questioned by the international community.
“The recurrence of stored nuclear-contaminated wastewater leaking exacerbates the world’s concerns about an inadequate management at TEPCO, Japan’s largest power utility, and the Japanese Government’s ineffective supervision,” he stated.
Wenbin urged Tokyo to “communicate openly and honestly with neighboring countries, manage radioactive water responsibly, and accept strict international oversight.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently emphasized that there is no precedent or accepted standard for dumping this contaminated liquid into the ocean.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved Japan’s plan to dump nuclear wastewater into the ocean. It stated that it complies with international standards and poses no health risk.
