According to the developed nations, they are on their right track to meet their overdue climate finance commitment to developing countries in 2023, three years later than promised, but Skerrit doubts their word.
At a press conference in the capital, the CARICOM president assured that at COP summits, there are always new proposals on the table, but none of them reflects the fulfillment of the rich countries’ commitments.
By the time they made the deals, it was with the understanding that cooperation would be in grants; but now they talk about financing and loans from the private sector, granted Skerrit.
The CARICOM leader further urged intense action on climate change and said the developed world must understand that small islands are not looking for sympathy.
We don´t want pity from no one. An injustice was inflicted on us because climate change is an outcome of the industrialized world affecting us. This is about compensation, sentenced Skerrit.
