Angola hosts summit of Community of Southern African countries

Luanda, Aug 17 (Prensa Latina) Angola hosts the 43rd Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and will replace the Democratic Republic of Congo in the group's rotating Presidency.

Angola’s leadership will address an important point in defending the creation of common identification documents, valid in all member countries, according to a statement.

The SADC Council of Ministers values the initiative as a factor that will facilitate the interrelation between the countries of the region and the use of various services.

The meeting of Heads of State and Government, to take place under the motto “Human and Financial Capital, main factors for the sustainable industrialization of the region”, will see the signing of a memorandum for the start-up of the Regional Center for Humanitarian Operations and Emergency Department, based in Mozambique.

The instrument must guarantee a concerted and coordinated action among the members of SADC in the event of natural disasters.

Another relevant point of the event will be the debates for the coordination of actions in favor of peace and security in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo and in the province of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique.

The meeting should also assess progress in the implementation of national reforms in the Kingdom of Lesotho, and in the political and security situation in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

SADC is an intergovernmental organization created in 1992, of which Angola is a founding member, dedicated to socio-economic cooperation and integration, as well as cooperation in political and security matters. SADC member states are: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
