President urges Guatemalans’ participation in coming elections

Guatemala City, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) After criticizing the process for repeated interferences by the Public Ministry, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei urged Wednesday full participation in the second round of elections between Sandra Torres and Bernardo Arevalo.

“Next Sunday, Guatemalans will cast their votes for the next president. Guatemalans will decide which of the two options,” said the Giammattei during the notifying delivery of the Senior Citizen Program in this capital.

“What is not acceptable is to stay at home, Guatemalans must go out and vote for the best proposal for the country,” added the head of State.

Only four days earlier the elections, the candidate Arevalo, belonging to the Semilla movement, is winning with 61% of valid voting intention against Torres, representing the “Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza,”, who just reaches 39%.

Some 9.3 million Guatemalans will go to the polls on Sunday to elect the president and vice-president, who will take office on January 14, 2024 until 2028.
