Aviles made statements on the national radio assuring that there are no criminal gangs in Nicaragua, the country is no warehouse for drug dealing, and there are neither criminal structures nor “sicarios” (hired assassins”).
The Army General highlighted the development of the strategy of State, wall of contention, which brings together the main forces and resources of the Armed institutions in order to keep a lid on drug trafficking and organized crime.
He also mentioned the constant patrolling of the land borders, the coasts, and the maritime and air boundaries, with the objective of containing, heading off, and capturing the drug that traffickers try to introduce, from the south into Nicaragua.
“We have the capability of at least keeping over 800 tons of cocaine a year from circulating through our territory,” he said.
He stated that attempts by drug traffickers to approach the coasts of Nicaragua are fewer now, and they don’t come closer than 500 nautical miles.
Another important matter to guarantee security is migration control, to which end it is established that those who move between Nicaragua and Costa Rica, through territories not designated for this purpose, are detained and delivered to the corresponding authorities.
