Thousands of citizens visited the Kumsusan Sun Palace, where the remains of President Kim Il Sung and the former general secretary of the Workers’ Party (WPK) and commander of the Korean People’s Army, Kim Jong Il, are preserved.
The scene was replicated at various sites associated with the 20-year war against Japanese colonialism, which concluded with the liberation of the country on August 15, 1945.
On the occasion, Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK and chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK, sent a wreath at the Liberation Monument. The ribbon read, “We do not forget the merits of the martyrs of the Soviet Army.”
The contributions of Soviet soldiers to the victory over Japan were also thanked by DPRK Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui in a message to her Russian Federation counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to Kim Jong Un for the anniversary of their liberation Day.
