It is also an acknowledgement of his work and contribution to consolidating a more humanistic, supportive, and just society, and strengthening peace and friendship between the peoples and governments of Cuba and Nicaragua. Abel Prieto received the title as part of the commemoration of the 93rd birthday of the founding member of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, Tomas Borge, and the 97th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
