Cuba welcomes honorary degree granted to Abel Prieto in Nicaragua

Havana, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Wednesday congratulated the renowned intellectual Abel Prieto, who received the title of Honoris Causa Doctorate in Humanities from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua.

Díaz-Canel wrote on his Twitter account that it is a more than deserved acknowledgement, it is worth double because it is given by Nicaragua.

Communist Party Organization Secretary Roberto Morales, in turn, congratulated the Casa de las Americas president and emphasized that the title recognizes his fruitful work.

National Autonomous University Rector Ramona Rodríguez, noted that the award was given due to the love and dedication of the outstanding Cuban intellectual to rescue the history and cultural identity of the nations.

It is also an acknowledgement of his work and contribution to consolidating a more humanistic, supportive, and just society, and strengthening peace and friendship between the peoples and governments of Cuba and Nicaragua. Abel Prieto received the title as part of the commemoration of the 93rd birthday of the founding member of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, Tomas Borge, and the 97th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
