Maldonado’s brother, Sergio, tweeted the filing of an appeal to the Federal Court of Appeals.

“As we did six years ago, we continue trying to prevent impunity. Today we appeal the sentence that again intends to close the case, with the same judge and the same doubts as in 2018,” he pointed out.

On August 1, 2017, Maldonado was seen alive for the last time after participating in a protest by the Mapuche Pu Lof en Resistencia community, in Chubut province, which was repressed by the Gendarmerie.

After 78 days searching, his corpse was found floating in the waters of the river near where the incidents occurred.
