On Monday, the world organization called on all contending parties to refrain from any inflammatory actions or speeches that could undermine the polls, according to a statement from Secretary-General António Guterres.

The text urged all candidates to contribute to the integrity of the polls, overcome any disagreements through dialogue, and address any grievances that may arise through established legal channels.

Last June, Gabonese authorities announced the holding of presidential, legislative and local elections on August 26, on the recommendation of the Gabonese Elections Center.

The Government’s decision marks the first time that the African country will hold these three polls together.
