Murmu visited the National War Memorial in New Delhi to lay a wreath and pay her respects to the fallen combatants at a ceremony attended by senior military leaders, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
On Monday, in an address on the occasion, the President called for efforts at the local, national and global levels to address the devastating effects of climate change.
She highlighted the challenges in this regard and urged scientists and politicians around the world to pay urgent attention to the problem.
The head of State added that parts of India have faced extraordinary floods, while there are regions affected by droughts, an evidence of the ravages of the global warming phenomenon, she said.
Murmu pointed out that India provides leadership to the International Solar Alliance and plays a leading role in fulfilling international commitments.
On the other hand, she assured that the country has made outstanding progress in all fronts with a higher growth of the Gross Domestic Product, the containment of inflation and the rescue of a large number of people from poverty.
She stressed that the Government runs specific programs to improve the conditions of tribal groups and encourage them to join the path of progress.
The President noted that India plays a crucial role in promoting humanitarian and development goals in the world, and highlighted the presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20) as a unique opportunity to reshape a new global discourse.
She expressed confidence in her country’s leadership in addressing global issues and in routing G20 member nations towards effective actions on economic and human development.
Murmu said that India’s economic progress is driven by the dreams of its people, particularly the young generations, who show their excellence from start-ups to sports.
