The Legislative Power called for an ordinary session for tomorrow and an extraordinary session for next Thursday with the purpose of advancing in the appointment of five principal and 10 alternate rectors from among 104 candidates that were selected by the Electoral Nominations Committee of the Parliament.
According to the newspaper, the president of the latter body, Giuseppe Alessandrello, emphasized, after presenting the final list of eligible candidates, that it was an arduous and organized process, in which there were agreements among the majority of its members.
The parliamentarian made an account of the process, which began last June 15, when the National Assembly in plenary appointed the Preliminary Commission of the Nominating Committee, integrated by 11 deputies belonging to the different political tendencies, and once the resignation of the CNE’s rectors had been made official.
After the installation of the Nominations Committee, such entity declared itself in permanent session, established the internal rules of procedure and defined the evaluation scale to speed up the process.
On Thursday last week, it finally submitted to the National Assembly the list of 104 citizens eligible to opt for the position of rectors and alternates of the National Electoral Council.
Regarding the proposal, the president of the legislative body, Jorge Rodríguez, greeted and congratulated the entire team that made up the Nominating Committee during the election of the candidates to occupy the positions of the new rector.
