The president of INE, Diego Aboal, told the press that these projections indicate a “small” population growth in Uruguay.
“It is likely that we will not reach the population projections that were made in the previous census,” which “indicated that we should already be more than 3.5 million,” Aboal said.
That census, in 2011, recorded that 3,286,314 people lived in Uruguay.
INE will release preliminary data for the 2023 census next September. The final results will be in the first months of 2024, Aboal said.
“The indications are that population growth, if there has been any, has been relatively small,” the INE president said.
