This was one of the issues discussed today at a summit between the presidents of Egypt, Abdel Fatah El-Sisi, and Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, and the king of Jordan, Abdullah II, held in the Egyptian city of El Alamein, on the Mediterranean coast of this nation.
The final declaration of the meeting demanded the Israeli withdrawal and the restoration “to the Palestinian people of all their legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination (and) the solution of the refugee issue in accordance with the resolutions” of the UN Security Council.
Resolving the Palestinian problem and achieving a just and comprehensive peace is a strategic choice, a regional and international necessity and a matter of international peace and security, the text stressed.
The heads of state called on Israel to fulfill its obligations and commitments under international law, stop its aggressions and calm the situation on the ground in preparation for the revival of peace negotiations.
That nation must respect its obligations as an occupying power and stop its incursions into West Bank cities, which undermine the capacity of the Palestinian government and security, they stressed.
They also urged Israel to “lift the blockade on the Gaza Strip, and other practices that fuel tension and violence”.
The three leaders also called for an end to Jewish colonization in the West Bank, the confiscation of Palestinian land, the forced displacement of people and the change in the character and identity of the city of Jerusalem.
In this regard, they denounced the systematic violations of the legal and historical status quo in the city and its holy sites, especially the Esplanade of the Mosques.
