Havana, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuba announced today a broad shortlist of 61 baseball players from which the team will come out for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile to be held from October 20 to November 5.

The list of athletes includes 20 members of the national team of the island that ranked fourth in the past World Classic, won by Japan.

According to the information offered at a press conference, the group has more than a dozen players signed this year in foreign leagues, most of them under the protection of the Cuban Baseball Federation.

The list includes six recipients, among them Ariel Martínez and Andrys Pérez from Matanzas, while the young Ariel Pestano Jr. and Leonardo Montero from Villa Clara were called.

A total of 15 players will seek the position among the defenders of the infield, a relationship in which Erisbel Arruebarrena, Yadil Mujica and Roberto Baldoquín appear, with experience in Major League organizations, and the leader in home runs and RBIs of the recently concluded national series, Osday Silva.

The 10 outfielders called up are led by Yoelquis Guibert, Yadir Drake and Alfredo Despaigne, and new faces appear such as Carlos Monier and Yosvani Peñalver.

The preselection includes 30 pitchers headed by Raidel Martínez, Onelkis García, Luis Miguel Romero, Carlos Juan Viera and Frank Abel Álvarez, while talented youngsters such as Rafael Perdomo, Miguel Neyra and the record holder in postseason victories Keniel Ferraz also appear.

Armando Johnson remains in charge of the coaching staff and the concentration of athletes now available in the country will begin on September 4 at the Latin American Stadium in Havana.
