The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution was recalled with a soccer game in which Ambassador Alejandro Simancas, diplomats from Venezuela, Argentina and Bolivia, and friends of Cuba and India participated.
Before the game, B.V. Raghavulu, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), highlighted Fidel’s figure as an inspiration to those fighting for the just causes in his country.
Arun Kumar, General Secretary of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO), highlighted the humanist qualities and dedication to internationalism of the revolutionary leader, who was born in Birán, a town in eastern Cuba, in on August 13, 1926.
Ambassador Simancas, in turn, thanked all Cuban friends gathered on Sunday to honor Fidel Castro, whom they identified with values such as friendship and solidarity.
The diplomat added that Fidel built the ties between Cuba and India, and recalled that September 11 will mark the 50th anniversary of the leader’s first visit to this South Asian nation.
