The Hero of the Republic of Cuba Antonio Guerrero, who was present at the emotional ceremony, told Prensa Latina that it is a source of pride for all of us to be able to remember, before the monument erected in Moscow, “who gave us the Revolution and the best lessons of solidarity and humanism.”
“We in Cuba do not have a monument to Fidel because he is constantly among the Cuban people, but it is an enormous honor to have Fidel’s presence in this square, in this sculpture that shows the rebel Fidel, the victorious Fidel,” Guerrero added.
“This is a very significant day to be together with the solidarity comrades to commemorate the birthday of the leader of our Revolution, who played a major role in the fight for the freedom of the Five Heroes and for demonstrating the injustice that had been committed,” he said.
The charge d’affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Russia, Marcos Lazo, said that for Cuban revolutionaries and the whole world it is an important date, because it reminds us of the man who gave us dignity, sovereignty and taught to fight against adversity and be victorious.
Today, the monument to Fidel Castro in the Moscow region of Sokol, the same that was inaugurated last year by Cuban and Russian Presidents Miguel Díaz-Canel and Valdimir Putin, was covered with flowers and flags, something that is customary in this place, as a sign of eternal respect.
