Abinader, who is participating on Sunday in the Dominican Day parade in New York, was referring to the assassination of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio last week, the El Nacional newspaper reported.
The head of State noted that in his nation, political parties share and enrich democracy, and noted having excellent relations with their leaders, but they must make their opposition with a level of respect, without violence.
In this regard, the president considered that “the Dominican Republic has been a very peaceful country in political issues and the idea is that we will continue to be so.”
Abinader pointed out that he will attend Sunday the Dominican parade in Manhattan in appreciation for the support given by the people from the Dominican diaspora to their country of origin.
