“We will not allow the opening of any diplomatic mission of any kind, Cohen warned during an interview with 103 FM radio station.
The FM noted that Saudi Arabia’s decision to appoint a non-resident ambassador to Palestine and open a consulate in Jerusalem for the first time was encouraged by progress in normalization talks between Israel and the kingdom.
“The Saudis want to convey a message to the Palestinians that they have not forgotten them. We don’t allow nations to open consulates. That is incompatible with our stances,” the diplomat pointed out.
The UN and the international community reject that position, and consider that the eastern part of the city, controlled by Israel since 1967, is an occupied territory.
