According to the Chinese state-owned Global Times newspaper, the attack was perpetrated near the police station in this port city in Baluchistan province, where separatist groups have previously attacked China’s interests in the region.
Local media noted that the attack started with a bomb’s blast as the engineers’ caravan, made up of two utility vehicles and a pick-up truck, was passing by.
Then the attackers opened fire at the three vehicles.
As it was impossible to get through the armored vehicles, the armed group fled and the engineers are now under the protection of the Pakistani security forces.
Following the incident, the Chinese Consulate General in Karachi issued a warning to Chinese nationals in Pakistan and urged them to remain vigilant in view of the “current serious security situation.”
