According to the two ministries, the so-called Dominica Export Import Agency (Deixa) will ensure a more structured relationship between farmers and producers by guaranteeing that they are paid on time for their products.
In the words of the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Reginald Severin, this facility will operate as a revolving fund and authorities have identified the challenges being faced by the sector, one of which is the late payments to farmers for their market sales.
In order to respond to this challenge, we activated this proposal by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, which will make it possible to provide the financial resources next year by providing a mechanism to purchase the farmers’ products actually, he said during the signing ceremony.
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy Roland Royer concluded that the Ministry of Agriculture has articulated its goal for the most significant contribution from agriculture to the gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030, and is working closely with the Ministry of Trade and Deixa.
